Since the middle of October, more than 10 burglaries have been reported across Ipswich. Offenders have forced their way in at the rear of the properties and then stolen cash and jewellery, largely from bedrooms.

Please take a few moments to review your home security and that of any elderly family or neighbours to reduce the risk of being victim to this distressing crime.

You can access our self-assessment tool but a few key points you may wish to consider are listed here.

· Restrict access to the rear of the property with fences at least 6ft (1.8m) high and a locked gate of the same height.

· Remove any tools or items such as bricks that could used to force entry to doors or windows.

· If you have a Ringdoor bell or other CCTV device, check it is working and if possible, recording images (a subscription may be required for this).

· Use lights on timers.

· Avoid storing valuable items in the (master) bedroom, especially in places such as the bottom of a wardrobe, chest of drawers or under the bed.
